“Orsola with pauses and suspenses”. (...)
“Orsola with pauses and suspenses”. “Pauses” stand for that soffused atmosphere of soothing quiet, where the scenes, misted with opalescent light, offer the uneasiness of the soul welcome and give shelter from life dangers and where time, extended beyound every possible measure, seems nearly to stop to do a useful report of the events and a reassuring collection of feelings. Pauses are likes moments for the recovery of one’s mind, one’s own memories and the mainly human resources. “Suspenses” stand for the inner and not confessed aura which is slightly left to intuition and which is bestiowed only to the imagination o fan attentive and respectful reader. Suspenses are like suspension of choices for an uncertain journey towards horizons not defined by the living problems, by tomorrow’s anxieties, by the precariousness of affections and values. (…) It is a complex panorama of meanings and forms. It is nice to filter it, therefore a particulary sensitive access, an ideal approval are requied to graps the artist’s creative characters, her purpose, the stages of her quest, and to understand the woman’s poetic corners, the intimate humanity of her person, her creative and meaningful awareness which is, at the same time, rich in enigmas and nostalgically restless, but which is, exatly for this reason, strongly intense, involving, interesting beyond measure (…)

In the evolution of Orsola Ornelli’s painting the narration becomes clearer and clearer From a certain image of landscape which gave a lyric tension as if of a suspended state of mind, now the internal vision expands because of sudden outbursts of immagination. The description of nature, waters trees stars, leavens a light which is mental rather than physical, close to certain gleams of a silent surrealism. The artist not only uses a mature oil tecnique, but devotes herself to watercolours with surprising sensitiveness: here, the faint zones of shade and light, physical and spiritual, make up a system of balance which is very close to the essence of poetry itself.

This artist has had the proud and the strenght to improve herself and transform the pure decorative representation of nature into the very essence of the soul. She can manage the colours with an absolute tecnique. Her blooming meadows, the wheat fields and the sheaves, which form the space in her paintings, are not simple elements of physical reality but part of a higher emotion. Orsola Ornelli can see in nature the old beauty of seasons that show themselves as a manifestation of God, able to reach even the darkest hearts. There are not human beings in her paintings and their working can be seen in the cut wheat, in the sheaves of straw, in the olive trees of Spello, full of light and mystery. The genius of the painter wants to make visible the emotions. In her landscapes the light of the sun, the trees, and the objects are the image of the soul; nature as a mirror and picture of the spirit of man. Her soul seeks the quiet and those of life seasons that leave unforgettable memories in everyone. Orsola will open the windows to let the light enter and colour our grey days. This light does not come from the sun, but from the soul. The observer discovers the simple beauty of nature and the real greatness in the little things

Looking at orsola Ornelli’s work is like merging into the intricate shades of her watercolours, painted on the porous hand-made paper that comes from the Medieval hamlet of Bevagna. In that paper Orsola has found the traces of History: the fields, the flowers, the thick trees that rise without shadows to the circling sky, where the moon takes ahape, they all bring memories. In her paintings multitudes of sunflowers celebrate their metaphysical triumph, as Nature offers colours and emotions to man who, in turn, incessantly transfigures its gifts. Man, the most fragile creature that knows both Life and Death, lives in the “Double Reign” ; Ornelli’s tecnique is double as well, it goes from the delicate and fairy-like watercolours to the mature and solid oil paintings, where the blu triumphs. In those oil-paintings white moons are mirrored in sea of wheat and sunflowers, the same sunflowers that Orsola knew in her childhood in Umbria, where she took her first steps and found that precious inspiration. The silent message she gives in her paintings, where time passes slowly, does not know the frenetic urgency that pushes us every day: one must enter Orsola’s paintings step by step, enjoying the silence and the double reign that belongs to Man.
